New women-owned Shrewsbury Street bar to open Friday

The Medusa's Saloon, a new women- and minority-owned restaurant and bar, will join Worcester's collection of Shrewsbury Street eateries later this week.

The bar, at 274 Shrewsbury St., will open at 5 p.m. Friday in the space formerly occupied by Frank's and will catered to women, according to a press release.

Owners Monte Snellenberger and Penny Martson, friends for 25 years, are partnering on their joint venture after careers in healthcare IT and the nonprofit sector.

In a statement, Snellenberger commented on Shrewsbury Street's reputation as a thriving restaurant scene.

"There has been a 'glow-up' in this neighborhood, with increasingly sophisticated, modern and elevated bar and restaurant experiences, and we saw an opportunity here," Snellenberger said. "We are catering to women and their comfort in a bar setting."
