Nature's Remedy hopes to open this store in Millbury soon.

Worcester will negotiate with another retail cannabis establishment, Nature's Remedy, bringing the total number of retail stores to negotiate a host community agreement with the city to 14.

The city said it will allow up to 15 retail marijuana stores. A host community agreement, which includes annual payments and community impact mitigation, is a requirement of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission before a company can apply for state licenses.

The company will now seek additional approvals from the city's License Commission and Planning Board to open the store at 140 Southbridge St.

That address is at least partially occupied by Union Music. A worker who identified himself as a part owner of Union Music but refused to give his name via phone on Thursday said the company would consolidate operations to the 142 Southbridge St. building.

According to the Nature's Remedy website, the company has cultivation operations in Lakeville and a dispensary in Millbury set to open soon.

The Cannabis Control Commission lists four different retail applications for the company, including Millbury, Fall River, Rowley and Tyngsborough. None have been approved so far. A licensee is only allowed up to three retail stores.

A company representative could not immediately be reached for comment.

According to the city, 47 applicants have applied for a variety of cannabis-related licenses. At full operations, including several manufacturing and cultivation operations, the city's cannabis workforce could bring 275 jobs to the city.

Currently, no Worcester pot shops are open for recreational sales. However, Good Chemistry on Harrison Street is poised to be the first after winning a final license from the Cannabis Control Commission last month.

That store could open in a matter of weeks.

The only other customer-facing cannabis business open in Worcester is medical dispensary The Botanist.
