After holding a community outreach meeting last week, Bloominus Holdings hopes to be the first marijuana retailer to open on Worcester's Main Street.

In a statement to WBJ, CEO Mark DeAngelis said the proposal to open a store in the former Elwood Adams Hardware location has so far received support from several Worcester business owners, including the owners of Armsby Abbey, WooBerry, Crust Artisan Bakeshop, Courthouse Cafe and the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce.

"We love seeing all the investment that's happening in Worcester's downtown core – including in this area of Main Street that's close to The Palladium – to make it a vibrant live-work-play neighborhood," DeAngelis said.

The company is one of 33 retail stores seeking a host community agreement from the city, which is a required piece before a company can submit an application to the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission.

So far, Worcester has awarded four host community agreements for nine retail stores, which leaves six open spots for an operator to win an agreement.

No Worcester store has received a final license from the state, however.

Bloominus' proposal is, so far, the only proposed Main Street store. If approved, the company would hire up to 25 employees for the store.

The store will include a digital high speed camera system and motion-activated lighting, an internal and external intrusion alarm and other external security measures to prevent theft.

The company is planning a cultivation operation in Georgetown.

Bloominus previously submitted an application to the city's request for interest to open a store on Shrewsbury Street, but the focus is now on the Main Street location.

The building was purchased by Hingham-based BradyMac Capital Advisory in July for $442,000.
