300-unit affordable housing proposed at Milford casino site

A Waltham developer has officially proposed a 300-unit residential affordable housing 40B development in Milford at the site of a casino proposed and defeated in 2013.

The development, dubbed Robsham Village, includes two buildings on 116 acres on East Main Street. It's the same land that was almost home to a Foxwoods-backed casino Milford voters rejected in 2013.

The developer, Eden Property Management of Waltham, was granted site eligibility from MassHousing last year, but the project had not been officially proposed to the town's Zoning Board of Appeals. The 40B designation allows Eden to circumvent zoning restrictions for the site.

A public meeting notice posted to the town's website this week indicates that the board will begin public hearings on the development on Dec. 6.

According to plans, the two buildings will include 75 affordable units for households under 8- percent of the area median income. The remaining will be sold at market rates.

The two five-story L-shaped buildings will be nearly identical and will face each other, according to plans.

Proposed are 16 studio apartments, 122 one-bedroom apartments, 132 two-bedroom apartments and 30 three-bedroom apartments, making up a total of 492 bedrooms.

Also proposed for the 558,000-square-foot development is an underground parking garage, 20,000-square-foot patio area and a private wastewater treatment plant.
