McGovern to tour 13 Mass. farms

U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern will tour Massachusetts farms this week.

U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA), whose district includes Central Massachusetts, began a two-day tour of 13 Massachusetts farms on Tuesday to highlight agriculture's role in the state's economy.

He'll be joined by officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the mass. State Farm Service Agency, the state Department of Agricultural Resources and UMass.

According to a press release from McGovern's office, he's slated to discuss new sources of farm revenue through additional agricultural products, and health and nutrition programs.

McGovern began his tour at Douglas Orchard on Tuesday morning and will then visit farms in Sutton, Paxton, Rutland, Oakham, New Braintree and Barre on Tuesday.
