Mass. gas prices jumped 5 cents a gallon in past week

State lawmakers are giving the gas tax and other ideas a second look after House Speaker Robert DeLeo last week invited ideas to boost transportation revenues. As they do, the price at the pumps is on the rise.
Lawmakers raised the gas tax by 3 cents a gallon in 2013, to 24 cents a gallon. AAA Northeast on Monday said gas prices in Massachusetts rose 5 cents a gallon over the past week, to an average of $2.44 per gallon.
